The  Sanitarian is employed by both Pondera County and Teton County. She maintains office hours in Pondera County on Wednesdays and Thursdays and alternating Fridays.

The Sanitarian inspects all of the facilities that are licensed through the Food and Consumer Safety Section of the Department of Public Health and Human Services.  This includes all food service and food manufacturing establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, bars, and grain packaging businesses.  Inspections are usually done twice a year but low risk facilities may only be inspected once a year. 

The Sanitarian also inspects all public accommodations , trailer courts, RV parks, swimming pools, licensed day cares and the Head Start food program.  Even though the schools food services program is not licensed, these facilities are also inspected.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Communicable Disease Program, which includes such things as reports of possible food borne illness and possible rabies exposure.
  • Department of Environmental Quality programs such as water quality, subdivisions, septic system permitting, solid waste, air quality and the junk vehicle program
